I Just Don't Believe It

A series of random concepts which I do not believe. Not sure why I decided to post this. Perhaps, I was inspired by Kidpositive, though for what it's worth here they are. Obviously, I'm not saying that this is "how it is" in black and white terms. These are just thoughts I've randomly collected over the past few months. I'm willing to be wrong on just about all of these.
  • I do not believe the Bible should always be taken "literally."
  • I do not believe that the Bible speaks of itself in "inerrant" terms.
  • I do not believe that the Bible speaks of a "rapture of the church."
  • I do not believe that the Bible speaks of the "last days" as a future event
  • I do not believe the Kingdom of God is actualized through governmental control.
  • I do not believe the merger of church and state is a good idea.
  • I do not believe the merger of corporation and state is a good idea.
  • I do not believe America was once a Christian nation.
  • I do not believe America is the promised land.
  • I do not believe in recapturing America's Christian heritage.
  • I do not believe in pledging my allegiance to a flag (or a nation for that matter).
  • I do not believe the Iraq war can be justified.
  • I do not believe the media is liberal.
  • I do not believe public opinion polls are legitimate news.
  • I do not believe FOX News represents legitimate news.
  • I do not believe as a person of faith, that the ends justifies the means.
  • I do not believe in the death penalty.
  • I do not believe that the "right to life" movement accurately and holistically represents one's right to life.
  • I do not believe that capitalism as a whole, and in its present state, any longer serves the common good.
  • I do not believe those holding a high political office can hold in two separate spheres, their religious beliefs and their public policy.
  • I do not believe the President can simultaneously follow Christ, and remain faithful to his duties as President.
  • I do not believe Mel Gibson's "The Passion" is one of the greatest evangelical tools of our time.
  • I do not believe in the Lakers having won 3 successive NBA championships.
  • I do not believe "women are like a McGriddles."
  • I do not believe that pride ever feels better than humility.
  • I do not believe there exists a legitimate spiritual analogy between reality television and the Christian faith, unless you are discussing depravity.
  • I do not believe Keane is the next Coldplay
  • I do not believe in pop-country music.
  • I do not believe a pilsner with guarana extract and ginseng can rightfully be called "beer."
  • I do not believe that sexuality ever affects only you.
Feel free to comment upon what you do not believe in if you'd like. I may, or may not, respond. Good day, ay.

"I do not believe Keen is the next Coldplay"

I don't believe anyone is the next anything. I hate those comparisons.

I do not believe in pledging my allegiance to a flag (or a nation for that matter)

Thank you. I don't even like singing the national anthem. Don't hate.

Questions:

Can you elaborate on any one of the following? I'm pretty sure I agree with you, but would like to know why you don't believe these things (especially the last one):

•I do not believe that the Bible speaks of itself in "inerrant" terms.
•I do not believe the media is liberal.
•I do not believe as a person of faith, that the ends justifies the means.
•I do not believe in the death penalty.
•I do not believe that the "right to life" movement accurately and holistically represents one's right to life.
•I do not believe that capitalism as a whole, and in its present state, any longer serves the common good.
•I do not believe the President can simultaneously follow Christ, and remain faithful to his duties as President.
•I do not believe "women are like a McGriddles."

Ooooh. Can I add one?

I don't believe the tsunamis, earthquakes, etc of late "mean anything."

I certainly believe the Bible is everything it claims itself to be. It is absolutely trustworthy, Godbreathed, useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, training in righteousness, etc. But I've come to understand, not on my own, but through worthwhile discussion on the topic, that the Bible never refers to itself as inerrant or infallible. We should, therefore, not assign to it values which it does not assign itself.

I do not believe the media is liberal.

While the media holds certain liberal mouthpieces, as a whole they are owned by a large conglomeration of conservative corporations. The white house has never had such a rigorous contol over the media as it doies now. Obviously, it is more complex than I am laying it out here, and there are certainly liberal factions that exist.

I do not believe as a person of faith, that the ends justifies the means

I have to leave this as another post for another time

I do not believe in the death penalty

As a redemptive people, should we deem another as being worthy of death, we are essentially saying they are unworthy of transforming hope of the Gospel. I believe as it stands, the death penalty is socially unjust.

I do not believe that the "right to life" movement accurately and holistically represents one's right to life

In birth and in death they raise a good voice with good concern. They seem to care very little what happens in between.

I do not believe that capitalism as a whole, and in its present state, any longer serves the common good

Another post for another time.

I do not believe the President can simultaneously follow Christ, and remain faithful to his duties as President.

See my previous post here

I do not believe "women are like a McGriddles."

...because - they are like coffee.

Yes, I realize that this is a blanket statement, and that it is more complex than this. Sorry to be so blankety.

Thank you. Also, damn. I think I just need to print off this list and bring it with me the next time we are all together again. It's annoying, i know, for you to write everything out. Argh! There is still so much I want to ask. Damn you time space continuum! Damn you to hell!

Such a strange idea to me, to define my beliefs in terms of what I don't believe.

-I don't believe that liberal or conservative ideas are the answer

-I don't believe that corporations are bad or evil

-I don't believe that most socialistic ideas can work without the framework of capitalism

-I don't believe that capitalism is necessarily bad

-I don't believe that capitalism is necessarily good

-I don't believe that socialism is ever very good

-I don't believe that socialism would be remotely tempting if Christians were doing what Jesus intended

-I don't believe that many of us Christians really understand what we need to be doing for others

-I don't believe that any of us understand the ramifications of radical love

-I don't believe that any of us have all of the answers

-I don't believe that many of us are really aware of our own ignorance

-I don't believe that one has to be a pacifist to be a Christian

-I don't believe that Jesus is a pacifist

-I don't believe that any evil will last forever... not even the Clinton administration

-I don't believe that pro abortion people and pro life people are arguing about the same issue

-I don't believe either of the above groups really thinks it's a honorable thing to end a pregnancy

-I do not believe that the issues America struggles with in relationship to gay rights would exist if for the last couple centuries people were not being beat up for being gay

-I do not think that evolution as Darwin describes it in Origin of the Species or as a means of the genesis of life has ANY scientific credibility

-I do not believe that many in the scientific community have ever been able to humbly say, "I don't know" when it is patently obvious that they don't know.

-I don't believe that the religion of "Materialism" (those that believe in evolution alone) is any less a religion than Christianity.

-I don't believe that genetic mutations commonly result in positive outcomes for the organism

-I don't believe that anything in the theory of evolution can account for the human eye

-I do not believe the earth is only 6000 years old

-I don't believe that God is ambivalent about what we do sexually

-I don't believe that singing the national anthem is bad

-I don't believe that many Americans can tell the difference between culture and religion

I believe that the television and print media is dominated by liberals. Then again, post of what I get is the LA Times, NY Times, CNN, and NPR, so I might get a biased group.

I believe that the death penalty may be just and appropriate under very, very, very rare circumstances. Not even close to how it is currently implemented in America.

I do not believe the Lakers defeated either the Blazers or the Kings, and thus I believe they won, at most, one championship.

I believe you have made a really good post.
